Infrastructure Settlement PatternThese are over 126,809 Households in the district of which about 88% are located in the rural areas. Small mushrooming urban areas have tended to develop along main roads or at strategic road junctions, what has commonly been termed as centers of economic activities in the locality. In the villages, homes have tended to be scattered making the provision of services and infrastructure expensive. In the rural areas, settlements are scattered according to the tenure of the land holdings, in some instances the settlements are concentrated in one area. Iganga District road NetworkThe District is accessed from Kampala by an all weather highway that begins at Bulanga, Waibuga S/county , through Iganga Town Council up to Butaba, in Bugweri County. The District has a total of 3,582km of Community Roads whose state deteriorates during the rainy seasons, and 569.06km of trunk Roads. PowerNalubaale Power Station with 180 megawatts supplies the district Power needs in conjunction with Kiira Power Station with 200 megawatts out put. The above have greatly boosted the Central Government’s Rural Electrification scheme which has taken enhanced the use of electricity in some of the training centers. Off –grid areas of the District will be served by solar energy systems. Investors both local and foreign are urged to explore this opportunity in Health, Education Institutions. |
